Handling?
All screens from DAF Screens A/S are manufactured by polymerisation of liquid acrylic (Methylmethacrylate) with microlenses embedded in the material. Acrylic is a well known material with highly optical properties and good chemical resistence used in textile, ink and paintings, like carpaint. A well known brand of acrylic sheets is Plexiglas.

Diffusion-screens can be machined, cutted, drilled, milled and shaped like any other cast acrylic sheet.
Screens can be installed like any other window of acrylic by any carpenter, using normal tools, like a window in a frame.

The thermal expansion of diffusion-screens is similar to acrylic (0,08 mm/m/°C) and requiring little space for expansion/shrinking in environment with temperature variation, if fixed (e.g. in a frame).

The most simple installation is hanging in fishing-line through two small holes.
See more under Cutting and Drilling in the left bar.

Cutting

The screen can be cut like other hard plastics (e.g. Plexi) with a compass saw/jigsaw with a fine tooth blade.

It's IMPORTANT to fix the screen before cutting. This can eventually be done with a lath or a ruler.
A hand-hold-machine with variable speed can be used. The blade is ordinary for plastics, aluminium and brass.
You can eventually use the lath to steer the saw.

 Drilling
A hand-drilling-machine with variable speed is useful. The drill is ordinary for plasyics and aluminium or brass.
It do not to be very sharp/new.

The smaller a hole, the closer to the edge, you can go. If the hole for example is 2mm (sufficient for fishing-line) it can be 15 mm from the edge to one side. If the hole is in the corner, you need to be 20 mm in from either edge. It's better to go.50 mm from the sides and 15-20 mm from top-edge.

It's important to:
  • Use a drill not too sharp
  • To have a piece of wood beneath to drill through
  • Not push hard.
  • Average speed - not too slow, neither too fast.

The most important is the support (piece of wood below) of the screen when the drill is "leaving" on the other side.

When hanging, it's always best to have larger distanstance between fixing in the ceiling (compared with the distance between the holes in the screen) to avoid "pendulum swinging".
